Obesity epidemic of India

Image
Obesity in India is on the rise. It has reached enormous proportions. As I sit and count at airports, the number of women who look obviously overweight and obese, the figures I get is 8 out of 10. And this is around same in children of all sexes and around 6 in 10 men show clearcut overweight and obesity that is obvious even to naked eye. Anthropometric measurements might reveal more of them.  What are the likely causes? I have a theory that starts analysing these cases right from the 2000s or previous century. Junk food eating and sedantry lifestyle had already given an upward push to obesity in last century. And this also gave rise to diabetes mellitus in both men and women. Hence, such mothers also had diabetes in pregnancy. Some who did not have diabetes otherwise had gestational diabetes. From 2000 to 2026 prevalence of gestational diabetes has risen in india. It has even spread to rural areas and recent national data gives a figure of 22.4% which is almost 1 in 4 pregnant mot...

There can be no universal forgiveness! It never exists!

Image
Forgiveness or pardon means clearing off the feelings of resentment or revenge towards the offender. In most contexts it implies giving up any expectation of justice. People justify this act of forgiveness from a religious point of view and psychologists justify it as an act that would bring peace to the victim. But my experience tells me that both religion as well as psychologists are absolutely wrong in asking a victim to forgive the evil person. This act is bad from a society point of view and would lead to a rise in crimes and unhappiness. Let me explain in depth with examples. 1. I have a friend in the UK. She is originally from Nigeria. She has two siblings who are married with children and she herself is single and childless. In the year 2009, she had gone to her hometown. There her siblings tortured her physically and mentally and put her under house arrest. They did not want to give her any ancestral property and assets. She managed to free herself with the help of a friend an...

Image
We know that a number of factors can affect health. This includes divorce but the impact of it is more on the husband's health than that of the wife. A woman is less dependent on a man but the reverse is true. A man is more dependent on a woman and hence post-divorce, his health suffers more.  Divorce and its immense effect on man's health Men health is closely linked to a married life unlike a woman. If a man divorces, the ill-effects on his health are enormous. In fact, it is the biggest threat for them. scientists from the University of Copenhagen have shown that if a man lives without a family for over 7 years, his risk of heart attacks, senile dementia and early death rises tremendously.  The study showed that after a divorce, a man has increased levels of interleukin-6 and C- reactive protein in his body.
