Educated daughters vs strong daughters: The difference

Image
Indian government, Indian law, and pro-female organizations in that land talk about increasing education of girls and women. I get very amused at this ineffective and useless propoganda that does nothing great to help the girl child and women. This is because most women even if educated are unable to continue work, career or do entrepreneurship because their parents or in-laws or community will not allow them. So it means educate them for namesake and then make them stagnant to do caring and cooking jobs at home. In short, educate them and again throw them in the same gutter or furnace as before. Education gives them no financial independence, no autonomy, no freedom to decide for self or children. Then what is the role of education for them? Nothing. I pity the parents who think that educating a daughter makes them finish their duty towards her. They continue to rear her as a cow or sheep. The net result is an educated women with no respect or autonomy and no space of her own. This ca...

Dementia: problem, risks, effects, and management

Image
I had met my classmate around 4 months back and informed her also about my mom's death. But in a recent email, she wrote to me that I had met her a couple of years back. She also enquired about my mom. Seeing her email, the first thought that came to my mind was: is she suffering from early dementia. I hope not. Maybe, she just forgot about the time that I had met her a few months back. Maybe because it was a hurried and surprise visit.  Nonetheless, dementia is on the rise. It affects people after 60 years of age. The increased life expectancy means that one will see more of such cases in the near future.  India has around 10 million dementia cases out of the world total of 57 million. This is a huge percentage. It affects not only an individual but the whole family. There is this individual who is physically okay but mentally absent. The person needs custodial care and it could turn out to be expensive. It is also emotionally disturbing to see your loved one in that state of...

Obesity rising in young women and children in India!

Image
Obesity has reached an alarming proportion in the world. Young women and children are specifically affected. There are a large number of overweight and obese women and children in urban areas of India. Moreover, rural areas also have significant number of these overweight individuals including men.  Obesity in India  Obesity is rising in India. The proportion of people affected by it is soaring. Urban areas have the maximum number of such individuals. But rural areas are not spared of it.  Obesity has become an epidemic and a growing health concern. All ages are affected but young women and children seem to have more of this problem.  My informal survey has revealed that around 80% of women, 60% of children, and 50-55% of men suffer from overweight or obesity in India. The affluent are affected more. But those from the poorer strata if society also show it in significant numbers.  Girls and women in India are sacrificial goats  Causes of obesity  The c...

Nepali vs Indian panipuri: The differences

Image
Everyone enjoys Pani Puri; the rich, the poor, the elderly, the aged, young people, and children irrespective of caste, religion or creed. Even overseas it is relished.  I will not go into the history of it. It spoils the whole fun of the delicious food dish.  But having tasted Pani Puri in several places, both national and international, I have found that they are made to cater to local taste buds. Hence, they are different everywhere in the world.  Let's talk about India and Nepal and the differences in Pani Puri at both places.  1. Puri - The Puris in India are made of maida, atta or suji. You have the option. But in Nepal, it is only maida Puris. I have yet not seen anywhere there suji Puris.  Nepali Pani Puri  2. Fillings - In India, the fillings are made of boiled and mashed potatoes with powdered spices. At times, there may be some green or yellow peas (boiled) in it. At some places, they add ragda (white or yellow peas that is boiled and mashed in s...

Black and white fungus both increasing in India: white is more dangerous, say doctors

Image
While fungus and black fungus both are increasingly seen in coronavirus patients in India. So much so that some states have asked the health authorities to declare it as an epidemic in their region.  Black fungus or mucormycosis  Increased incidences of black fungus or mucormycosis are observed in those who are coronavirus-positive in India. Gujrat is the worst-affected as regards the black fungus. The state doctors have requested it to be called an epidemic in their stare considering the magnitude of cases coming up in those who test posits for coronavirus.  The fungus appears in immunocompromised states of coronavirus. As if this was not enough, now white fungus cases in these patients are also on the rise. And the white fungus is more dangerous than the black fungus.  White fungus and coronavirus cases  Doctors from states such as Bihar have reported that they are finding an increasing number of cases of white fungus in those infected with coronavirus. ...
