Many skyscrapers in the Hong Kong special administrative region of China have large gaping holes running from the front to the back of the buildings. Why do the
people, architects and builders keep such large holes in the high-rise buildings?
There is a reason for it. As we know that Hong Kong is a Chinese province with
Chinese influence. The gaping holes in these buildings are dragon gates and are
kept to allow dragons to fly from the mountains to the water. It is the belief
that this would assist and bring in good luck. It is based on feng shui that is
a Chinese pseudoscience system that gives a lot of importance to the positioning
of buildings, windows, doors, and objects in order to bring in positive energy
and drive away the negativities around a person or house.

Chinese
believe a lot in dragons and they are a part of many of their festivities and
events. They are supposed to be harbingers of good luck. Chinese believe that
blocking the path of these powerful creatures could result in misfortune for
the person. Hence, they keep these large holes in the buildings in order to
allow dragons to pass through freely. They do not want to obstruct the path of
these dragons in any way.

They
believe so much in feng shui that they feel that the Bank of China Tower was
not built of feng shui guidelines and hence people around the area are unable
to do good business!!! It has become so much a part of new businesses that
corporate houses have a certain amount of money that they set aside for the
purpose of getting a proper feng shui consultation before they shift into or
make any building or office.
The
practice of feng shui originated in ancient China. It claims that it uses
spiritual forces and energies around a person to get harmony into him or her.
The stress is on architecture and buildings so that the universe, earth and
humans are bound in a healthy way. This is called qi and invisible forces are brought
into action to accomplish it.

This practice has branched out into a number of
types and landscape ecologists, environmental scientists, architects and
geographers all use it in the East Asian world in the structures they construct.
The tools in feng shui are the magnetic compass, a Luopan which is the
couth-pointing spoon, and a ruler.
