Why I decided to not attend Nepal Respiratory society conference 2025?

I am a super-specialist doctor. Hence, when I learned about the pulmonology conference in Nepal in September 2025, I thought of attending it since I was there for some other work.

But I ultimately decided against attending the Nepal Respiratory society conference. You will agree that 'the first impression is the last impression'. And my first impression about the conference and organizers, unfortunately, was bad.

Reasons:

1. Incomplete information on internet

No proper directions on internet. There was incomplete and wrong information.

2. No office

When anyone makes a medical society or association, it needs to have a proper physical address, phone number, and email id. But this, Nepal respiratory society, lacked all of this.

3. Piecemeal information

Initially, the registration details had no details about registration for international delegates. Later, this was added. But again, there was improper info on it. At one place, the fees was 12k npr and at another place, it read 14k npr.

4. No or delayed response

There were three numbers given for contact, but answers from all of these were different and delayed. Most of the queries remained unanswered for days together. Ideally , answer has to come within 2 working days. Answer after 4 days is stated as delayed. Sadly, even the President of the NRS did not answer my message though I had clearly mentioned that I am a super-specialist doctor and wished to attend the conference. What an inefficiency!!!

5. Blindly supporting the harmful digitalization

They said that everything was online and no cash payment. I pity those doctors who blindly follow what the illiterate politicians tell them do. As intellectuals, you need to question every new thing that is forced on you. Otherwise, what will be the difference between you and lay people or you and a herd of sheep or cows?

Digital technology may be good for information and limited communication, but it comes with its own disadvantages. There are cyber crimes and frauds. Even if you overlook this, doctors should know that digital technology promotes sedentary lifestyle that is bad for health. People have stopped visiting banks and shopping areas. They do everything from home with a click. But this has caused a rise in obesity and metabolic conditions. Obesity has become an epidemic and digitalization contributes to it. Heart ailments and diabetes are on the rise. Doctors need to make people aware of this rather than they themselves blindly following it. What a shame!!!

6. Poor management/communication and choice of topics was just routine.

I thought that if doctors are acting in a non professional way, the conference also would be equally bad. I would be wasting my time attending it.

Hence, it is better that I do not attend the conference and spend my time in other fruitful and useful way!!!
