Why I decided to not attend Nepal Respiratory society conference 2025?

I am a super-specialist doctor. Hence, when I learned about the pulmonology conference in Nepal in September 2025, I thought of attending it since I was there for some other work.  But I ultimately decided against attending the Nepal Respiratory society conference. You will agree that 'the first impression is the last impression'. And my first impression about the conference and organizers, unfortunately, was bad.  Reasons: 1. Incomplete information on internet  No proper directions on internet. There was incomplete and wrong information.  2. No office When anyone makes a medical society or association, it needs to have a proper physical address, phone number, and email id. But this, Nepal respiratory society, lacked all of this.  3. Piecemeal information  Initially, the registration details had no details about registration for international delegates. Later, this was added. But again, there was improper info on it. At one place, the fees was 12k npr and a...

The USA has reached the unimaginable milestone of 500k deaths related to coronavirus!

The USA has surpassed every country of this world not only in the number of coronavirus cases but also in the deaths caused to the pandemic-producing virus. It has achieved the milestone of 500k coronavirus-related deaths. This is 20% of the world total deaths due to the infection. And the USA has only 4% of world's population. Also,  the number of deaths due to coronavirus are twice that in Brazil. Brazil is second in the list of heavily infected countries followed by none other than India.

500k coronavirus-related deaths in the USA

John Hopkins University has reported on its website that the USA has crossed the mark of 500k deaths due to coronavirus. This all has happened in less than a year that the pandemic status of the infection was declared by WHO last year.

The current President of the USA, Joe Biden held a ceremony in the White House on Monday evening to mark this sad news. He pleaded with people to wear face masks properly and at all times in public spaces and especially when social distancing cannot be practiced for some reason. He informed the citizens that the number of deaths in the USA dye to coronavirus has been more than the combined number of deaths of US service members in World War I, World War II, and Vietnam War.

He said:

"The people we lost were extraordinary. They spanned generations.  Born in America, emigrated to America. Just like that so many of them took their final breath alone in America. As a nation, we can't accept such a cruel fate. While we're fighting this pandemic for so long, we have to resist becoming numb to the sorrow.''

Sad plight of health care workers

The health care workers have been working day in and day out to help the people of coronavirus. They too are tired of this endless process where the virus seems to go on unabated. Vaccines are in but the cases and deaths are showing only minimal signs of slowing! The doctors, like Joe Biden, are urging people to wear face masks in public domains. One emergency room doctor, Eric Cioe-Peña said:

"Don’t clap, don’t give me baked goods,’’

"I don’t need any of that. I need you to wear a mask and not get COVID.’”

But there is another problem, coronavirus variants that could pose a threat for another surge in cases. Hence, it is vital to continue with adherence to proper face masking, social distancing, hand washing and avoidance of large gatherings. People support would go a long way in avoiding another milestone in death cases!!!
