Covid-19 proved that 'the world is one' but...
Medicine and Science are for the good of the public. They need to remain independent especially away from the greedy hands of politicians and business tycoons. But unfortunately, medicine fell prey to these two power and money-minded people during the current coronavirus pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic showed the world that the 'World is One'. The deadly virus spread to each and every corner of the world and did not acknowledge man-made borders. But sadly, people of the world countries stood divided even in this type of a common emergency that struck the world. They formed parties and were involved in a blame game. Instead of targeting the virus, they began pointing fingers at each other and gave a good time for the virus to spread. The interests of the general public was neglected as always and truth was suppressed for the sake of economy. Politicians took this opportunity to grab media attention. Business houses took this chance to encash and earn big profits. The opinions of authentic scientists was ignored and thrown into the back burner. All this gave enough ground for myths to flourish and the virus to spread and cause innumerable fatalities. And the governments themselves headed by non-scientific people gave fuel to these wrong notions for their own ulterior motives: power, vote banks, and money. They used excuses of general public goodness to cover up their own greedy and selfish motives and the gullible people took their word as gospel truth!!! This was also because people read internet but are unaware of which websites to reach and rely on for knowing good and reliable science. They believe in what others say without using their own brains to analyze and reach a proper conclusion. Something like a herd of sheep where they just follow their leaders even if the leader takes them to the ditch!
Covid-19 and the world countries
The response of most of the world countries was inappropriate in handling the current Covid-19 pandemic. There was no proper scientific information sought and politicians overall ruled the show leading to a dismal presentation. In the USA, President Donald Trump was involved in a blame game with China. China was involved in suppressing facts and hiding truth. It was defensive in all aspects. India and many other countries shut borders and made policies that badly affected common people and migrant workers. It only led to more viral afflictions and deaths. Experience and suggestions of the scientific community were unheeded. It was a knee jerk reflex on the part of the government without realizing that science and medicine is never absolute. Medicine is not like Mathematics where 2+2 is always 4. In medicine, it can even be 3 or 5. Research and scientific fraternity are better to predict and make policies and not the politicians who totally lack in scientific knowledge. Some countries like Nepal shut the borders even to its own people leading to illegal entry of the troubled citizens and these led to more afflictions and more deaths. Some countries such as Brazil falsely underplayed the magnitude of the pandemic and did not impose any precautions to counteract it. Some countries such as North Korea remained secretive about their own data on coronavirus cases and denied that they had any cases. There were others who first gave all the data truthfully but when economy suffered started to suppress facts and falsely say that the cases have cone down.
People and Covid-19
People were victims and they either kept quiet and followed what was told. There were some who strongly revolted and said that Covid-19 does not exist. Religious groups jumped in to fan and amplify these feelings and myths. There were others such as in India that started propagating some unproven herbal remedies as cure for coronavirus. Others there blamed the medical fraternity for saying that the virus is present. They openly defied face masks and turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to true data of the coronavirus cases and deaths.
Everyone had their own non-science-backed and unsubstantiated beliefs about the virus and the pandemic. In short, there was a chaos in the world started by the virus and assisted by the politicians and encashed by the business tycoons.
What would have been the ideal situation?
Ideally, politicians should have kept their wide and lying mouth shut and let the medical people handle the situation in the right way. They should have stopped talking in public or giving press releases and let the doctors handle them. By that way, truth would have reached the masses with no haphazard and hurriedly imposed restrictions. The doctors could have better explained on the reason for face masks, social distancing, and hand hygiene than the politicians. Things could have been managed smoothly and well if doctors were able to take control of the reigns rather than the power-hungry politicians. Science and humanity might have been helped and saved by it!!!
