Psychiatrists and psychologists have higher incidence of mental illness in themselves!

Psychiatrists and psychologists treat mental issues of their patients. But what about their own mental illnesses?  Psychiatrists and psychologists are more ill mentally  Doctors   are in great stress during their training as well as career period. The workload, busy and fast life schedules, and higher expectations and competitiveness and the nature of the job itself leads to a sense of exhaustion, both physical and mental. There is a heavy burnout. Moreover, time for socialization is almost nil.  Hence, doctors are in grave risk of suffering from mental health illnesses. And in this, psychiatrists and psychologists have a higher risk and incidence of mental health issues.  It is a sad truth that psychiatrists and psychologists are more ill mentally than general public or other doctors. Dr. Scott Atlas, the controversial adviser on coronavirus in the USA resigns from his post! Critics are relieved!

 Dr. Scott Atlas was special adviser on coronavirus to President Donald Trump. Over the past 4 months, he had clashes and differences of opinions with the other members of the coronavirus task force. And now a White House official has revealed that Scott Atlas has submitted his resignation from the post.

DR SCOTT ATLAS AND HIS RESIGNATION

Dr. Scott Atlas was a special adviser on coronavirus to Donald Trump. But over the last four months, he had repeatedly been on loggerheads with the other members of the coronavirus task force over decisions and policies.  And ultimately, he has put in his resignation from the post. A White House official confirmed the news and Scott also posted the resignation on his Twitter account.

Scott said in the letter to Donald Trump dated 1 December 2020:

“I am writing to resign from my position as special adviser to the president of the United States,”

WHAT HIS COLLEAGUES FEEL?

Public health experts had heavily criticized Scott for the misinformation and inaccurate information that he was feeding Donald Trump about the coronavirus pandemic. The leading US Infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci was also not happy with the neuro-radiologist Scott Atlas. His colleagues at Stanford University’s medical school also issued a statement on Monday in which they said:

“Dr. Scott Atlas’ resignation today is long overdue and underscores the triumph of science and truth over falsehoods and misinformation,”

Earlier in September 2020, they had released a statement to reveal to the world that they are not in agreement with his views. Their statement read:

“His actions have undermined and threatened public health even as countless lives have been lost to COVID-19. We will continue to advocate for evidence-based public health policies that are grounded in established science, including the use of proven preventative measures like mask-wearing and social-distancing, and the safe testing and delivery of effective therapies and vaccines.”

SCOTT AND HIS DEFENSE

Scott has in the letter also talked about his various accomplishments and also slammed his critics. He said that he has managed to get schools reopened and also expanded on virus testing. He wrote:

“Like all scientists and health policy scholars, I learned new information and synthesized the latest data from around the world, all in an effort to provide you with the best information to serve the greater good,”

Scott is a senior fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution. He was a special government employee on a 130-day detail that was to expire this week. But he submitted his resignation before that. Scott had spoken against face masks and also said that lockdown is a complete failure and not the solution for the pandemic. The new Joe Biden administration is also relieved with his resignation. Dr. Celine Grounder, a member of Biden’s advisory panel on the crisis said:

“I’m relieved that in the future, people who are qualified, people who are infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists like me will be helping to lead this effort,”

“You wouldn’t go to a podiatrist for a heart attack and that was essentially what was happening.”
