Dementia: problem, risks, effects, and management

I had met my classmate around 4 months back and informed her also about my mom's death. But in a recent email, she wrote to me that I had met her a couple of years back. She also enquired about my mom. Seeing her email, the first thought that came to my mind was: is she suffering from early dementia. I hope not. Maybe, she just forgot about the time that I had met her a few months back. Maybe because it was a hurried and surprise visit.  Nonetheless, dementia is on the rise. It affects people after 60 years of age. The increased life expectancy means that one will see more of such cases in the near future.  India has around 10 million dementia cases out of the world total of 57 million. This is a huge percentage. It affects not only an individual but the whole family. There is this individual who is physically okay but mentally absent. The person needs custodial care and it could turn out to be expensive. It is also emotionally disturbing to see your loved one in that state of...

Donald Trump and his ample failures during his Presidency 2016-2020 and COVID-19 pandemic 2020-2021!

Donald’s presidency started in 2016 and his last year in office was in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic struck the world. But his policies against it were a failure. Nearly 450k people died in this pandemic and the mean life expectancy also fell by 1.13 years. The fatality rate of the USA due to COVID-19 was 40% higher than that of the other nations. And many of these deaths were easily preventable if the political head was good enough to handle the situation well.

The Lancet report of the Commission on Public Policy and Health

The Commission on Public Policy and Health released a report on the health situation during the Trump-era on 20 February 2021. It detailed the impact of Donald Trump’s policies on the population health of the USA. His actions have been labelled as incompetent and malevolent.

The former President had suppressed scientific facts related to the pandemic. His intention was only economic and did not help the people of the nation. He delayed testing and also mocked face mask-wearing. This did not go well in the national interest. He also went ahead to conduct large gatherings when social distancing guidelines should have made him not do it. He talked about unproven treatments for COVID-19 virus.

Donald Trump and his wrong policies

The ex-President also pulled the USA from the Paris climate accord and the WHO despite global warming and its ill consequences. He appointed the wrong people on important posts of departments meant to protect people from environmental and occupational hazards. There were regulations in place before but with these wrong appointments, regulations were rolled back and led to 22k deaths in 2019.

Donald’s tax policy was also faulty and led to a USD 1.9 trillion tax cut for wealthy people. This caused a budget hole and needy people’s food and housing assistance was affected negatively. He tried to repeal the ACA and the number of uninsured Americans rose by 2.3 million.

Donald Trump and his human rights violations

The former President did mean acts towards humanity such as non allowing refuge to people of neighboring nations who were trying to flee violence in their countries. He abused immigrant detainees and also penalized them.

Such anti-American and Anti-humanity policies had been done in the past as well by other Presidents of the USA. Nixon, Reagan, Bill Clinton, all have done things that have affected the USA in a negative way. All these have led to health gaps, income gaps, and also education gaps.

Joe Biden has a mighty task ahead to set right the long-term damage of the wrong and biased policies of the previous Presidents of the USA.
