There is a rising epidemic of loneliness and mental health problems behind the shadow of the current coronavirus pandemic. It is hiding now but ready to explode anytime in the future.
Loneliness and mental health issues epidemic with coronavirus pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic started in December 2019 in Wuhan in China. Since then, it has engulfed the world and led to more than 70 million infections and 1.58 million deaths. The toll of infections and deaths is continuing with no respite. The lockdowns and reemergence of the infection in the second wave and re-lockdowns has restricted people mobility now for over a year. The personal interactions and engagements of people have been cut drastically leading to a feeling of isolation and solitude in them.

Elderly people, children, and young are feeling the pinch of it more. Classes are affected and employments are gone. Economic downfall has taken place and people are tired of the ongoing crisis in the world. There are intermittent hopes but the rising cases seem to shatter them again.
Students and teachers and their lives
Students are socially and physically isolated and unable to cope with new modes of online teaching. There are wide learning gaps and teachers are also burned out trying to make it online for the students. There are budget cuts and layoffs. Stress due to the fear of infection in self or family continues.
Health care workers are also facing episodes of depression and anxiety to the physical and mental exhaustion due to heavy workload with no time for relaxation. The mental health issues are currently hidden but the proportions are steadily rising to explode one fine day.

Several burnout stories are making headlines but these are just the tip of the iceberg! A lot lies submerged at the moment!
What can be done?
It is important that families and friends support each other during this time of crisis for the world. Governments should look into this epidemic as well and take measures to decrease and prevent it. Every person should understand the implications of the problem and seek medical help whenever deemed necessary.

Psychological support and hotlines should be started to take care of the cases. Financial packages should be provided to the needy as soon as possible and food drives and banks should be increased. The pandemic and epidemic both need a war footing to handle and it must be done without any loopholes!
