Food companies and their misleading labels

Image
Food is for nutrition and to provide the body with energy and vital nutrients. Names of foods help us to know what the likely ingredients might be in it. But often, we notice that food names are misleading. They can fool a person into buying only to realize that it did not meet their expectations and imagination. For instance, take the example of samosa. An ideal samosa is refined wheat flour (maida) wrap with mashed potatoes and boiled peas inside. And when we say paneer samosa (cottage cheese stuffed fried dumplings), the picture that comes to our mind is of a wrap of refined wheat flour dough with paneer inside. But to your disappointment, you will find that these samosas are nothing but the normal samosas with mashed potatoes with or without boiled peas and just 1 small piece of cottage cheese at one corner!!! If we talk about rusks, most of these are made of refined wheat flour or maida which is not healthy. Maida is stripped of all the vital nutrients such as fiber, vitamins,

Should men do shaving of hair of the armpits? Why?

Excessive hair is androgenic and considered a sign of masculinity. Hence men usually do not shave off the hair from their body parts except maybe from the face. But now increasingly men worldwide are sporting beards of different kinds. They prefer to not shave off their beard. Some religions also prohibit men to shave their beards such as in Sikhism and Islam.

Many men cut their scalp hair short during the summer months. They also go clean-shaven as regards the beard. But then what about the hair on the chest and armpits? And in the summer months with the lesser clothes one wears, the armpit hair tends to stand out. So should the armpit area also be shaved?

4044 men were part of this survey. 68% revealed that they do trim their armpit hair. 52% stated that they do this for aesthetics and 16% said that they shaved it for athletic reasons. 10% of men surveyed stated that they have never trimmed their armpit hair.

The trend of armpit hair shaving in men

Craig Whitely is Hollywood’s expert on male grooming. He speculates that if the survey was done 5 years back, the answers would have been different. He disclosed that manscaping is not just limited to a particular area of the body:

“If you’re already doing some form of manscaping and you’ve got your shaver out, why not keep going?”

Men with excessive and long growth of hair in the armpit area prefer to do it and also do it more frequently. But sometimes, one thinks as to why men should have hair in the armpit area. Daniel Lieberman is professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University. And he states that it might have once upon a time used to attract a mate!!! The underarm area has a lot of apocrine glands that produce sweat and perspiration. This is made of steroids, lipids, proteins, and also some other chemicals that can ‘communicate’ information. The hair might be used to trap the sweaty scent and attract a mate. But in the days of today, this does not hold true.

How to trim the armpit hair in males?

Firstly, exfoliate your underarms before you trim the hair there. This will reduce the ingrowing of hair that is painful. An exfoliating body scrub can help and removes the dead skin cells and bacteria.

One can clip the hair short in a dry form. But Craig advises that you should do it in the shower. This is because hot water softens the hair and reduces the risk of nicks or pulling of hairs. Shower first and then shave the armpits. Use a shaving gel for added moisture to avoid any skin irritation.

Shave the part slowly using a good sharp razor. This is essential since the hair growth in the armpits is in all different directions. Hence one needs to shave it up and down as well as sideways. Use a razor with a pivoting head to negotiate the armpit curves and make things easier and more effective for you.  Follow the shave with an aftershave no-alcohol-based balm for the sensitive area. And after 2-3 minutes, apply a moisturizing deodorant.
