Qantas airlines recently came out with the
new rule that covid-19 vaccination would be mandatory for all international
travelers on its airlines. This has not gone well with the travelers and many
of them have vowed to never travel with the airlines.
Qantas and the new rules on
COVID-19 vaccination
The famous airlines
company Qantas has come out with a new rule as regards COVID-19 vaccination.
They have said that all international passengers would be required to have a
vaccination against covid-19 before they can board their flights. The boss of
Qantas, Alan Joyce has made headlines since he made this rule known to the
public. He had said that once this vaccine becomes available, all those who
take their flight would need to get the vaccination done. Alan said:
"For international travellers, we will
ask people to have a vaccination before they get on the aircraft,''
"Certainly, for international visitors coming out and people leaving the
country, we think that's a necessity."
He added:
“I think that's going to be a common
thing, talking to my colleagues in other airlines around the globe,"
He also said that those who are anti-vaxxers may have to board alternative
flights and not Qantas. Did he consult any medical person before making or
stating this rule??? Does not look like!
Outrage amongst the flyers
No sooner had Alan made public this funny and ridiculous rule, it was met with
fury from the likely flyers of the airlines. People took to social media to
express their displeasure at this new rule. One Twitter user queried:
"What right does Alan Joyce have to
demand that we will only be allowed to travel with @Qantas if we first prove we have been vaccinated
against covid19?
@VictorianCHO My health and vaccination status is none of his
concern. Perhaps l will fly Qatar?"
Another social media user expressed surprise.
Another vowed never to use Qantas again. Another user
suggested that there are other options that Qantas can consider.
Some of the people were not against the vaccine but did not like the
idea of Qantas of making it compulsory for all travelers on international
flights. One said:
"If
Qantas really go ahead, we may have to seek judges' ruling."
Others were skeptical of the safety and effectiveness of the
vaccine. It is known that many companies are developing the vaccine but the
effectiveness and safety especially in the long run remain unknown. Pushing an
experimental vaccine on the travelers would not be a wise decision for the
airlines. It may have to roll back its policy soon!!!
But there were also some who supported this move of the airlines. They probably
did not know the dangers of vaccines and were blindly in support of the system.
The Australian government had said:
"While the Australian Government
strongly supports immunisation and will run a strong campaign to encourage
vaccination, it is not mandatory and individuals may choose not to
vaccinate,"
"There may, however, be circumstances where the Australian Government and
other governments may introduce border entry or re-entry requirements that are
conditional on proof of vaccination."
