 Winter is setting in and hot beverages are in demand. And tea and coffee are popular hot concoctions that are consumed during the cold months. But they may not always be healthy and also have side-effects on the gut and body if taken in large amounts. Are there any alternatives?

HOT DRINK HEALTHY OPTIONS FOR WINTER

To beat the cold this winter, we will have to have increasing amounts of hot beverages. Tea and coffee are popular but there are other interesting options as well that can also be more healthy. And these warm drinks can be easily made at home with minimum amounts of ingredients.

Herbal tea is one of the ways of making our regular tea more healthy and different. In this, the commonly used tea powder or bags are replaced by herbal tea powder and bags. These can also be made easily at home. These include chamomile tea, ginger tea, green tea, lemongrass tea and the like.

Besides this turmeric milk can be warmed and consumed for that warmness and also for good health. Milk is a nutritious drink and added turmeric to it and warming the whole mixture aids in cutting down on body inflammation. It also soothes the throat of any irritation due to the astringent action of turmeric. It is also called as Golden Milk and has added anti-viral properties and anti-oxidants in it. This medicated milk is also good for wound healing and for bones, skin, and diabetics.

Hot lemon water is also a good substitute for tea and coffee during the winter months. The lemon is rich in vitamin C that boosts immunity and can help the person fight germs and infections. Studies have also revealed that this mixture is beneficial for the heart. It also helps in toxin elimination for the body.

Besides, turmeric milk one can also add almond powder to milk and have it. Almonds have vitamins in it especially Vitamin E and are also a good source of potassium, magnesium and other essential nutrients for good health. Avoid adding sugar and for that great taste, cardamom and saffron can be infused into it.

CINNAMON MILK

Cinnamon milk is made adding cinnamon to warm or hot milk and boiling the mixture for some time. The spice adds flavor and also has medicinal value. It is claimed to have anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It has a cardio-tonic action and helps in lowering blood sugar. It could also be added to other drinks besides milk.

One can also have honey-added warm water and also plain lukewarm water. This helps to remove the excess secretions that accumulate during the cold months. It soothes the throat and removes any irritating factors from it. Herbs and ginger with black pepper and honey boiled in water can be healthy for cold and flu.
